Acupuncture and Tuina are branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) The effectiveness of these two major treatments - particularly when practised as they are in Chinese hospitals and clinics - is often significantly underestimated in the West. Cupping and moxibustion are also traditional techniques that are still practised as part of Chinese therapies today. Used as it is in the East, Chinese therapy is the treatment of choice for both internal and musculo-skeletal conditions. All treatments have an effect on the body's natural Qi (pronounced chee) energy. This can be disturbed in various ways by injury, stress or disease and these treatments can restore health by

      • increasing deficient levels of Qi,
      • regulating excess Qi,
      • clearing pathogens,
      • shifting blockage or stagnation

and so restoring a natural energy flow pattern and good health.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles through the skin at specific locations (often called acupoints) on the body's natural energy channels.

In some cases, particularly for musculoskeletal problems, electroacupuncture may be recommended. The sensation is remarkably pleasant and it feels as if it is doing good!
